Extra Credit Visits are worth between 6 and 10 points, depending on distance traveled (15 pts for NY or Southern NJ, 25 pts. for exhibits outside tri-state area), and must be accompanied by a Write 1 page summary. Students may select UP TO 3 exhibits/viewings extra credit. This project(s) is to be completed during student's free time and turned in with Final Journal Project. due -- in your binder -- April 29, 2015.

PRESENT TENSE Arts of Contemporary Africa The installation focuses on the art of the present day, including works by nine artists with wide-ranging approaches to “art-making” as well as equally varied subject matter and sources of inspiration. Artists include: Olu Amoda, Owusu Ankomah, Viyé Diba, Etiyé Dimma Poulsen, Lalla Essaydi, Atta Kwami, Nnenna Okore, Yinka Shonibare and Sue Williamson.
With a permanent home in the heart of Southern New Jersey, and a traveling museum with access to over 3,00 historical and cultural artifacts, the museum offers a unique opportunity to open a window to the mindset of successive generations of African Americans a provides and understanding to its cultural evolution. Soul & Spirit:Two Hundred Years of Art
from the Hampton University Museum
Permanent Collection - On Going Occupying four permanent galleries in the Museum's new gallery space, the Huntington Building, this exhibition chronicles the history of African American art and features works of art from the earliest African American painter whose work is extant (Joshua Johnson) to works by such contemporary artists as John Biggers, Elizabeth Catlett, and Jacob Lawrence. The Museum is the only institution in the nation to have such an exhibition on permanent display. The museum is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 12 noon to 4 p.m.; closed on Sundays and major holidays. Admission is free.
